Including a grocery store in a list of north Georgia attractions may raise a few eyebrows, but the fact of the matter is that Harry's Farmer's Market is a popular destination. The unique blend of people and upscale shopping invite even the most casual on-looker to pause and reflect on this little piece of pure Americana.

The ethnically diverse staff at Harry's crosses every racial line and geopolitical border. So do the vegetables. It is easy to find vegetables that you probably have never heard of, and probably can't pronounce the name, so don't try. We had always been intrigued by bok choy since we heard of the Chinese cabbage in the movie FX. We saw it for the first time at a Harry's. What a great addition to wonton soup.

The store is laid out in a series of u-turns, taking any quick shopping trip and turning it into an adventure. The fruits are varied and near or at the peak, and full meat, seafood and fish markets line the back wall of this expansive warehouse.

One of our favorites is the coffee section. Fresh roasted coffee, stored in air pots to keep it fresh after brewing, always makes the trip worthwhile.

Perhaps the most interesting areas contain dry and bottled goods from around the world. Spaghetti from Italy, escargot from France and German chocolate all make the mouth water. Don't forget to save some room for the homemade desserts. Harry's Cheesecake is famous from Sweet Auburn to Powers Ferry.
